Smart templates will help to buy shoes online


Researchers at the University of Valencia and other research centres in the region are working on the creation of intelligent templates that help users to reduce the effects of diseases such as diabetes, and find the right combination of shoes and insoles. So they use different computer advances, such as scanners in 4 d.

researchers from the Escola technical engineering from the Universitat de València (ETSE-UV) involved in the project of creating a smart templates that could facilitate, in future, the sale of footwear on the Internet.

The objective of this research, which will be held for two years, is to get smart and individualized prescription of templates depending on the characteristics of footwear and the foot of the user. So, will develop a set of software tools that help podiatrists to perform the best therapeutic treatment for their patients.

Group Intelligent Data Analysis Laboratory (IDAL) participates in the project Smartpif, funded with 800,000 euros by the European Union, included in the program of support to small and medium-sized enterprises, which is coordinated by the Instituto Valenciano de Pie (IVPIE) company and the technical coordination of the technological Institute of footwear and related activities (INESCOP).

these models of pressure will be produced using information obtained through scanners 4 d of the users feet, with predictions of pressure maps production plant which will allow to make a prescription more careful combination of shoe and template best suited to each particular case.

The Consortium

The Smartpif Consortium is coordinated by Angel Camp, director of the Valencian company Instituto Valenciano of the foot, and is also composed of the Spanish company Alu Group, the Italian Eurosuole, the British S-Insoles and the Luxembourg Lion Sistems. Moreover, the research will be carried out from INESCOP and Valencia, Salford (United Kingdom) and Polytechnic universities delle Marche (Italy).

Angel Camp points out that this research "will make possible an improvement in the design of templates, since it will allow to know how patients make the discharge pressure of their plants before manufacturing and verify its effectiveness". In patients with diabetes, this initiative "may prevent the development of ulcers since these patients present deficiencies in pressure points plants", adds Camp.
